Garbage and Recycling
Waste Management
The communities participating in the Quaker Valley Council of Governments negotiated a five-year contract with Waste Management that runs from 2022 through 2026. The yearly cost per unit for 2025 will be $296.64 ($24.72 per month, or $74.16 per quarter). The contract includes weekly curbside waste collection pickup, every other week recycling pickup, and household hazardous waste & e-waste collection.
Recycling containers can be purchased at the Avalon Borough Building during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm) for $10 each. The Borough Administration Office accepts cash and checks.
Waste Management will help you dispose of bulky items, such as mattresses and box springs, bed frames, cabinets, sofas and furniture items. However, a special pick up must be scheduled - please do NOT place these items out with the weekly curbside collection items. Visit www.wm.com for more information.
E-waste recycling is also included in the current Waste Management contract, but arrangments must be made through Waste Management for a special pick up.
Was your garbage not picked up this week? Is your payment past due? Do you have building materials or unacceptable items in your trash? Do your cans weigh more than 50 lbs? Those are just a few reasons the driver will decide your trash cannot be removed. Call Waste Management immediately to remedy the situation. Visit the www.wm.com or call 1-800-866-4460.
Pickup Day for Avalon Borough is Thursday!
Free Glass Recycling - MICHAEL BROTHERS and QVCOG
In 2022, the Quaker Valley Council of Governments launched a Glass Recycling Program free to all residents. Glass recycling sites are located in Avalon Borough in the Frederick Street Parking Lot located across from the Department of Public Works/Fire Department and in Sewickley Borough's Riverfront Park (300 Chadwick St, Sewickley, PA 15143). For more information, visit www.qvcog.org
The Allegheny County Health Department's recycling division provides information about hard-to-recycle items and publishes the Recycling Resource Directory (rev. 12/19), which gives county residents information about where specific materials can be recycled.
