Proposed Service Cuts Announced by PRT

Several of the proposed service cuts are set to directly impact stops within Avalon and neighboring communities. If the proposed plan is not revised or delayed, PRT officials state the plan would take effect in February 2026. PRT faces a $100 million deficit starting on July 1, 2025. Spotted LanternFly resources
The spotted latternfly (SLF) is an invasive inspect. Native to China, India, and Vietnam, it was first found in eastern Pennsylvania in 2014 and has been increasingly seen in Allegheny County since 2020. SLF feeds on many trees, especially fruit, ornamental, and woody varieties. As it feeds, the insect sucks sap and excretes a honeydew substance which can build up and become a growth area for sooty mold. SLF do not bite or sting, but can cause significant damage to host trees. You can find more information from the PA Department of Agriculture, the Allegheny County Conservation District, and the Penn State Extension. Residents are encouraged to call 1-866-253-7189 or email badbug@pa.gov to report sightings.
